Project: Highways Agency
Equipment: 160 x 12kVA & 24kVA Standby Generators
AVK are currently in the process of supplying 160 generators for the UK motorway network and the National Traffic Control Centre. Based in the West Midlands, the purpose-built centre has been designed to collect, analyse and communicate motorway travel information.
The centre is already operational and delivering information to the media for onward broadcasting. It will be delivering its full traffic services to the public by the end of the year.
Each of AVK’s 160 generators, rated at 10kVA and 17kVA, will provide back-up power and security to the traffic monitoring equipment they are installing around the network. In addition to this, it will also supply emergency power to ensure the running of their variable message signs, CCTV cameras, weather stations and traffic sensors.
The Data collected by the NTCC will be analysed and used to respond to accidents and to inform the public, the Highway Agency, the police and media amongst others to help ease congestion. This, in turn will make the lives of road users easier by keeping them informed and making journey times more reliable. It will also reduce congestion and driver stress by keeping motorists up to date both pre-journey and en route.
