The contract was awarded to AVK to install 4 off 2800kVA MTU medium voltage diesel generators. As part of the installation AVK also installed the complete bulk fuel system which consisted of a 150,000L bulk fuel store split between four balanced tanks, the complete flue system to the roof including noise and emission controls, and the room acoustic treatment including acoustic doors, plenums, wall and ceiling lining and sound attenuators.

AVK project managed the complete installation through permanent on-site project management and CAD facilities, employing a full-time site foreman to supervise the site installation works.

Logistics was a particular issue to the client, as at its peak, the site employed over 1000 site operatives split across dozens of sub contractors. Each plant delivery had to be meticulously planned and timed to ensure complete coordination with other trades.

The timescales were of particular importance to the client and AVK succeeded in installing the complete scope of works on time, powering up the gensets within 5 months from receipt of the initial instruction to proceed. Mike Horn, AVK’s Project Manager comments “This has been a challenging project with a very broad scope of supply and tight timescales. By working closely with our client and our sub-suppliers and site labour, we have succeeded in executing this project on time and within budget”.
