When British Land decided to develop their site in Lime Street, London they chose AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd to provide the standby generation.
Why? Because AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd, having achieved successful steady growth since 1989 has a structure which enables us to react quickly to customer requirements. We provide expertise in the design, planning and implementation of power systems projects in all major market sectors ranging from Retail, Banking & Finance and Energy through to Industrial and Petrochemical.
They chose AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd for not only the Landlords' 800kVA generator, but also the two 1700kVA generators for the Tenants - Willis Insurance of America.
The challenges were quite considerable because the Tenants generators are situated on the 27th floor of the highest building in the City.
However, with the help of the Consulting Engineers and Phoenix Electrical, AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd, with all their years of expertise, developed an engineering solution.
The generating sets had to be stripped down to allow craneage to the 28th floor, lowered down to the 27th floor and then reassembled, a similar task that AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd have completed on a number of occasions before. The acoustic containers likewise came to site in flat pack form and were lifted to the roof for reassembly.
The Tenants generators had to be 11KV and AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd employed their unique dead bar synchronising system with step up transformers to 11KV.
The dead bar system allows for very fast paralleling of the sets which is essential in providing 3.4 MVA within 15 seconds !
Because of possible fire risks, the step up transformers were cast resin dry type and AVK supplied the neutral earthing resistors as part of their overall package.
The acoustic containers are fully bunded and designed to reduce the noise to 70 dBA at 1 metre with both sets running. The containers have motor gravity louvres fitted and a fire fighting system is installed in the unlikely possibility of a fire.
A considerable amount of Engineering design work and Project Management is involved with this type of project, a challenge that AVK take on every day. With our in-house engineering CAD design teams we are able to offer a fast track solution to even the most complex challenge.
