The AVK Protect 4 UPS System from 160kVA to 1000kVA and its advanced Digital design has been the best kept secret in the UPS world. Since 1996 this product has lead the field in Digital UPS and is still to be copied or overtaken, others claim full digital control but do they really have this functionality?

Some seven years ago AVK|SEG took the bold decision to cease its sales of ROTARY UPS in the UK. This decision was made due to the advances made in STATIC UPS eliminating and exceeding the claimed advantages of ROTARY which still stand up today.

UPS are complex pieces of equipment that require regular on going maintenance to ensure maximum performance. Mains supply and distribution of UPS power are prone to faults and operator error. Therefore, power protection systems must be designed to be fault tolerant and maintainable whilst critical loads remain supported and operational. To ensure optimum maintainability, the power distribution system must be continually monitored.

The matching of UPS systems and generators is a complex issue. Chris Pritchard, Managing Director of AVK|SEG (UK) Ltd comments “The combination of standby generators and static UPS systems as identified within the article is the optimum way of providing high integrity and high reliability within the power scheme. It is recognised as the only way of achieving a Tier 4 installation solution with the highest level of system availability”.

Installation of a generator system normally involves significant capital expenditure to provide a secure supply for critical loads.

The latest UPS Systems from AVK|SEG are now some of the smallest on the market yet they still pack in all the performance expected today. Much has changed over the years. Back in 1983 a 100kVA Static UPS System would be 4,500mm long and consist of 9 cubicles; today we are able to provide 1000kVA in 4,200mm, today’s 100kVA being just 1200mm long.

Back in 1978 at the IEE Savoy Place, the Static UPS Seminar took place with three manufacturers, including GEC Industrial Controls and Emerson.  Each gave their version of how a static UPS operated.  All were based on the McMurry method developed by RCA of America.

Dealing with AVK is like entering John Lewis, you can buy all you need under one roof to keep your data centre in good power order.

AVK & SDMO are entering the renewable energies market and introducing a concept aimed at developing the production of electricity from generating sets combined with a renewable energy and energy storage batteries. Christened HYBRID SOLUTIONS, the project will concentrate, initially, on photovoltaic energy and will target the world telecommunications market.
