This Project was initiated from a requirement to replace the Aircraft Servicing Electrical Power sources in an Aircraft Maintenance Hangar. The Hangar handles all the short haul, planned and casualty maintenance for the British Airways Fleet. As you can imagine this is a very busy environment, therefore it was paramount that the reduction of Aircraft Down Time was kept to a minimum.
The existing equipment had exceeded it's design life and was inherently unreliable, so we were looking for an innovative solution to solve this problem. To add to the complexity of the project, the Hangar supported an under floor cabling solution. This, combined with the physical floor area, complicated matters due to the fact that the aircraft systems are so sensitive and demanding, that voltage drops could not be tolerated, therefore the design of the cabling system was critical.
We tendered this contract to "supply and install suitable equipment" to all major suppliers of 400Hz electrical supply equipment and I am pleased to say AVK|SEG (UK) LTD came out in front in all stages of the selection process.
"The final solution offered by AVK|SEG (UK) LTD met both the requirements of management and users. The installation process was both complex and arduous and despite numerous set-backs at the early stages the work was managed and progressed well."
Because of the early problems some of the original deadlines were not met, however we now have a system that fully meets our needs thanks to the patience and diligence of AVK|SEG (UK) LTD to meet our requirements throughout the project.
Essentially, we now have a reliable system that we don't have to worry about. It is maintained by the supplier and meets all the criteria that we stipulated both at the start and during the project. All I can say in summary is
"…we are very satisfied with the service and product AVK|SEG (UK) LTD have supplied for us in British Airways Engineering Fleet One."
